This Saturday, the Toronto Dingos will kick off their 2025 campaign with a Pub Night at Duke’s Refresher on Front Street at 8 p.m.
Everyone is welcome!
If you’re curious about the sport, it’s a great opportunity to meet some of the coaches, executive members and players. No experience is necessary to play Australian Rules football. We’ll show you how it's done.
Last season the Dingos had 18 Canadians qualify for the playoffs run. Canadian pair Matteo Lugarini and Matt Howell were part of that 2024 finals campaign.
Lugarini, who played for Canada’s national men’s team last year, said when he and Howell joined in 2023, they were looking for a strong team culture paired with a competitive sport. He felt supported and said there weren't any expectations placed on newcomers.
“Just do it, everyone is extremely supportive. Everyone is committed to ensuring you have the best possible experience,” he said. “You instantly join a family when you join the Dingos.”
Howell, who was part of the Canadian national team squad before injury sidelined him, said, if you’ve played hockey, soccer, or football, Aussie rules will feel like the next best thing to play.
“The amount of great people you meet and the overall increase in your personal fitness is incredible,” he said. “The physicality, the fast paced nature of the sport, and learning all the Australian trash talk on the field are some of the reasons why I love the sport.”
Canadian Sawyer Jonker joined the Dingos last year and has put his hand up for the team manager role in 2025. He said he loves Aussie Rules for its fast-paced and dynamic elements.
“What I like about the sport is its dynamic nature and the amount of teamwork and coordination involved in each game,” he said. “As for being a Dingo, the club has embraced me wholeheartedly. It's a great place to be with excellent dudes who want to succeed on game day and as individuals.”
Former British national player James Talbot, who is now the new Dingos Vice President (Recruiting) said, if you’re curious just get down and try it (Aussie Rules).
“You will find an element of it that you excel at and can then work on all the other skills. For me it was tackling and being a pest. Still trying to learn everything else,” he said. “(The Dingos) are a unique group of lads from all over the world who just support one another through thick and thin. Train hard, play hard and then enjoy a few beers together after.”
The Toronto Dingos are openly recruiting players of all skills and abilities for any on-field and off-field roles at the club. We're looking forward to meeting all newcomers for the 2025 AFLO season.
